I dedicate this blog to the people working toward their goals and people that have achieved whatever goals they set for themselves. Thanks for being an inspiration to others and not sucking.

I took screen shots of a news report on Australian TV (ch 7). It’s the largest obesity study done in the USA that shows the top 5 foods that make you gain weight and help you lose weight too.
I’m kind of devo that potato chips/crisps and potatoes are at the top of this list. They are my ‘go to foods’ that I’ll always crave the most. The study said a packet of chips a day will make you gain 1kg over four years. Sorry but that hardly seems that bad to me :) It’s all about moderation after all and I definitely don’t eat them daily.
As for the best weight loss foods I think there are no surprises there besides the order in which they appear in on the list with plain yoghurt and nuts coming in before fruit and veges.
Anyhow, I found the video interesting so thought I’d share … it’s only about 90 seconds long so even better!

Finish What You Start
Sumo Salmon Salad (serves 2-3, takes 10 minutes)
Japanese-style salmon flaked into a fresh garden salad. Can be served warm / cold.
I added some rigatoni, but you can leave out the pasta if it doesn’t take your fancy.
Ingredients:
1 salmon fillet
Mixed salad leaves
Tomatoes (baby plums are lovely)
100-150g fresh egg pasta
Japanese rice vinegar, tamari soya sauce, olive oil, ground pepper, 1-2 garlic cloves
1. Chop up the garlic and put it in a pyrex dish. Put a few drops of tamari sauce and 1.5tsp of vinegar onto the garlic. You can put more tamari in if you like, but it will make it saltier.
2. Plonk the salmon fillet on top of the garlic (skin-up) and rub it around the dish a bit so that the flesh soaks up some of the sauce.
3. Make sure that the fish is sitting on top of all the garlic and cover the dish with cling-film. Poke a few holes into the cling-film and put the dish in the microwave (full heat for 3 minutes)
4. While the salmon is cooking, put the pasta in a pan of boiling water and leave it to cook for 3-4 minutes whilst you prepare the salad.
5. Finely chop up the tomatoes and mix into the washed salad leaves. You can add mushrooms too if that’s your cup of tea.
6. Once the fish is cooked, peel off the skin (being able to peel off the skin is a great way to tell that the fish is nicely done) and flake the salmon with a fork. Leave it to cool a little.
7. The pasta should be done by now as well, so drain it and wash it in cold water
8. Toss the salad in a little olive oil and ground pepper, then mix in the flakes of salmon. Pop the pasta in and toss it all together. If you want to serve it warm then mix it all together straight away, otherwise let the salmon and pasta rest for a while.
And any leftovers…take to work the next day!
